Mandarin Teachers Wanted in San Francisco
There is a huge demand for qualified Mandarin teachers in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
In order to qualify for a teaching position in the San Francisco public schools, one needs to meet the following requirements:
- Have a college graduate
- Pass CBEST (California Basic Educational Skills Test) on Reading, Writing and Math
- Pass CSET (California Subjects Examination for Teachers). Chinese is one of the subjects.
- Get CLAD or BCLAD (bilingual certificate of language arts development for teaching ESL/Bilingual subject).
- Enroll in a college that offers credential program, such as San Francisco State University, New College (www.newcollege.edu/teachered/default.html), a private college in San Francisco.
- Get a multi-subject credential for teaching in K-5: www.ctc.ca.gov/
Teaching credentials are required for teaching K-12 in public schools. In the past, emergency credential were awarded as long as potential teachers passed the CBEST test and enrolled in a credential program in a college.
San Francisco Unified School District - Mandarin Teacher Openings
The San Francisco Unified School District currently has four Kindergarten Mandarin teaching positions for its first Mandarin Immersion Program starting June 2006. The District will be hiring 1st grade Mandarin teachers in 2007 and upper grades for the following years.
Applicants will be asked to participate in curriculum development with Multilingual Language Department staff and ACE (Advocates for Chinese Education) and participate in the summer programs.

ACESF- Saturday Mandarin Class Teacher Openings
ACESF is looking for highly experienced and qualified Mandarin teachers for our Saturday preschool classes for children ages 3-6.
We are also looking for Mandarin teachers for toddler classes aimed for children 2-3 years old.
